A country getaway in Iowa’s northeast hills, this project celebrates the region’s Scandinavian roots, drawing inspiration from countryside cabins found throughout Norway. Committed to using locally sourced materials and artisans, this project showcases Iowa’s rich local resources with handcrafted timber frames, battered stone walls, and a landscape planted with a native prairie mix. The three structures are carefully sited to maximize views, light, and connections between each structure. Each has its own distinct interior, and contains a load bearing timber frame with structural insulated panels to maximize energy efficiency.
